LITTLE INDIA+TAMAN KOTA LAMA+FORT CORNWALLIS

LITTLE INDIA

It all started when Najah wants to give treading a try and the best place to do treading is in Little India.
The plan was to go to Little India and then head to Tanam Kota Lama and try to famous mee sotong and coconut drink everybody have been talking about over facebook, instagram and all the social network one know. The start of the journey was a little bit confusing but all went well after that. Fetched Li Ann from her place, then May Chee and our journey starts there.
Li Ann was suppose to joined us but we were afraid that we could not send her to work in time therefore she made the decision for us to first drop her off to work.

myself, Li Ann, Najah

My very first time to Little India was last year with Sharon, Aaron and a few other people and after that, I have been there for a few times but until now, I will still get lost there. Little India covers an area around Lebuh Queen, Lebuh Chulia and Market Street. It is an ethnic Indian enclave and also it is a very colorful place which have many Indian stores from jewelry store to music store, beauty store, Indian clothing store and so many more. Every corner of the street, there will be an eating place for vegetarian to non-vegetarian customers. I see more than 2 Ananda Bahwan  in one street.

Najah, May Chee and myself spend quite some time at the entrance, taking various of pictures.

Started off with ourselves.

and then Najah tries to explain to us about this new photography concept where a guy named Murad Ossmann first created it and it apparently became famous. He is a photographer and if you think this picture that we try to portray is nice, you should definitely look at his.
and also you noticed from the picture, our skin color is different and that makes Malaysia special. We constantly talk about "zebra crossing" and laugh about it, talked about our religion and respect each other, and when it comes to food, we also think about our friends from different religion. Don't you just wish Malaysia was as peace as us. =)

They make a pretty good job in posing, don't they? Seems so real but its all an act. =)

Najah and May Chee

May Chee and myself, walking like we own the street.

Najah and myself, trying to look amazed. LOL

So much of fuss on who to ask to take a picture of three of us and finally, we manage to spot a tourist and they are being so kind to take a few picture of us. As a return favor  they manage to find their way back, I hope. haha

Dint manage to find the shop which Najah wanted to go but the shop we went looks pretty ok. There is air corn and also the shop is clean and well designed and we are the only customers in there at that time.
This is where Najah did her treading and I wish I could post the video up but I would not do that to my friend. haha. May Chee decided to give it a try but I chickened out. Their expressions killed me and according to May Chee, it is like a knife is cutting through your skin and she can hear the sound of her eye brows when it is pulled out.
ok, not to scare anybody but worth to try at least once in a life time? I am sure this is not the right time for me.

After treading. They look so clean. The price is actually very reasonable as well.
RM5 for eyebrows
RM10 for eyebrows and mustache
RM12 for the whole face

Did not manage to walk any further because the weather is so hot, plus its lunch time, so we decided to head back to the car and to Tanam Kota Lama

A few snap shots we took while walking back.

Absolutely love this picture. Looks real and natural.

Lastly, manage to find another working lady to take a picture for us. =)

Next stop,

TAMAN KOTA LAMA

Finally, new food to indulge in. At that time, I can only see them eat but I did pack one packet for myself.

May Chee ordered the wet one and Najah ordered the dry one.
RM6 for the Wet mee sotong and it comes with half an egg
RM4 for the normal mee sotong.

and of course the special coconut shake which comes with a scoop of ice cream

The surroundings, in any case you get lost or something.
The place is crowded with people from different races, even tourists.
I have to admit, the mee sotong is pretty good. There is a taste of sweetness+ spiciness in it. Truly mouth-watering.

eermmmmm, is this how people look when they are excited to take their first bite? Maybe because they were too hungry. =p

Never though of going in there. Actually, it never once came in to my mind that I will want to go and visit Fort Cornwallis. The only time I visited Fort Cornwallis when the Christmas Open House is held there and CHS had to performed a few songs.

A little bit of history. (googled it) - Fort Cornwallis - named after the Governor-General in Bengal, Charles Cornwallis – is  one of the most interesting historical landmarks in George Town, located close to the Esplanade, next to the Victoria Memorial Clock.
Inside the fort, one can still see some of the original structures built over a century ago, including a chapel, prison cells, which were once used as barracks, a munitions storage area, a harbor light once used to signal incoming ships, the original flagstaff and several old bronze canons, one of which is a Dutch canon called the Seri Rambai, dated 1603. An interesting note about the Seri Rambai - some locals believe that this particular canon can have a positive effect on a woman's fertility.

Today, this privately managed historical site is popular among visitors, equipped with a tourist information kiosk, cafe, an open-air amphitheater  a history gallery, a souvenir center as well as guides who can take you around the fort grounds and provide you with a glimpse of the fort's history.

Before we enter

Us and our sunnies, just perfect for a hot hot day. Thanks May Chee for lending me the sunnies. =)

Price and opening hours are stated in the board.

What we saw first when we enter.
Could not resist not taking picture with Sir Captain Francis Light.

As we continue walking in, there chairs caught our eyes.

May Chee manage to place her camera in the right angle to capture a perfect picture of three of us.
Thank God for self-timer. =)

Felt so proud after taking this picture of May Chee. So "artistic" right? hahah

As you continue walking, you can see a souvenir shop and also the arts corner but it looks dead. lol

After walking up the straits, you can see the Gun powder Magazine on your left.

This are the description

This is known as a canon.

Descriptions about it. You can also google about it because I don't think anybody can read from the picture. haha

Playing around with the Cannon.

Sri Rambai Canon-
it is believed that infertile women would be able to conceive if they were to place flowers on the barrel of the Sri Rambai cannon, as the cannon is believed to possess superior powers that can grant the wishes of the women asking. As present, there are a total of seventeen cannons, the largest being Sri Rambai, alongside the fort’s northwest surrounding perimeters facing the sea.

More pictures of the canon

We dint go through the whole of Fort Cornwallis because it was too exhausting and the heat is killing us as though we are going to melt anytime soon. Took our last picture together but the Sir Rambai Canon seems to  not be in the picture. LOL

Our life savior throughout the walk. hehe

While we were just sitting down and resting before heading home, we spot a Swedish family who came down and travel around Asia for a few weeks if I am not wrong. They stay in Batu Feringgy and they travel around Penang using rapid bus. Respect. Its a family of 5 consisting of both parents and 3 boys.
Meet David. so cute but he is so shy. =)

Finally, its time to go home.
otw to the car

It is a good place to visit as a family, a couple or with a bunch of your crazy friends.
20 decades and this is our first time there. So called Penangnite. lol

I'll end with a picture of myself. =)

It was truly a good day despite of the hot weather but its better than a rainy day right? The Fort Cornwallis was impromptu and it was definitely a fun day. Najah called it an adventurous Friday. It definitely is an adventurous day. 5 hours of walking is no joke but I had 2 awesome people with me and that makes the day even special.
